Interview with Shadows of the Winds (Skies ton Anemon)

*What's the name of your band? What's the origin of that name? Have you changed the band's name before?

“Shadows of the Winds” is an old story. Nobody knows how it started and what exactly means. Perhaps it comes from the shadows that make the trees in the windows of the houses when the wind blows at night and you get the feeling that someone is there…. “Shadows of the Winds” is conposed by different protagonists every time who may have never met each other but they share the same fears, the same feelings, the same dreams, even the same thoughts…..

*What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major infl

Has not specific genre and generally we don’t believe that there are genres and categories in music. We would say that we are a genre on our own. We have influences from everywhere. From metallica to Hatzidakis and from the birds carol to..... car horns! Everything is music …..

*How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

Accidentally! Probably it was meant to be ...

*When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

We were two... then became three ..... and so on! What inspired us is that we are friends who one day would have a great story to tell ....

*Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?

We don’ t like record companies for many reasons. Generally the word company brings us allergy!

*What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?

In general technology, if you know how to use it properly, can help a lot. The same happens with music. The equipment we use is one that serves our needs and our demands in different cases. The most expensive musical instrument is in our heads ......

*Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

Where every concert takes place is very important. We prefer the small theaters that can maintain the style and atmosphere created through our songs. Concerts are scheduled to be made in the following period.

*Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?

We play mostly our own songs and some covers that we like very much. We don’t know what play list means!

*Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

Every song hides a different story but, in the end, if you put them together the one underlies the continuation of the other. Regarding the future, future is like life... indissoluble linked to the past. In order to go forward, you have first to make a step back and get up steam… The songs belong to those for whom they were written ....

*Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

Someone has an idea and all together start building on this idea. A song is like a house. Someone buys the land, another sheds the concrete, another sets the hydraulic, the electric ….etc.

*What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

We have rehearsals regularly, however the time is never enough. Under the current circumstances and the “modern” pace of life you can’t do it otherwise. That’s our biggest problem.

*How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

We are a very close team. Our friendship and our cooperation helped as improve, as people and thus as musicians.

*What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

The are facing a big challenge all the time ....

*What's your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

If we wanted to become famous we would go to .... greek idol and we would pretend to be clowns! Our goal is to do first what we like ourselves and Everyone is welcome! The system and the music industry in Greece does not promote bands like us and that makes us very happy! We support the team that plays the best ball and in the end loses ....

*What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

You must fall in order to reach the high .....

*How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

They just type “Skies ton Anemon”. The rest will come....!

*Is there anyone you'd like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

There will be someone somewhere!

*Any last words?

Goodnight!

*What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

We play rock music and our influences come from various genres of rock, such as grunge (Seattle scene), stoner, hard rock and even metal.

*How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
Most of us have known each other since 1995.

*When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?
Our band was formed in 2004. Our main inspiration was our need to make music, since none of us was in a band at that time.
*Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?
We produced and released our album “Ancient Tree” in 2005. We are not members of any music organization.
*What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?
Each one of us has developed his own set-up based on his personal taste, but also the band’s needs. As for brands, we do have a special preference for Fender and Gibson.
*Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
We have had quite a few live performances, our best moment being in “Rock Under the Rocks” Festival in Kalambaka in 2008. Our favorite venues are the ones where we have not played before.
*Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?
We only play our own songs, we very rarely play covers. We have of course a play-list, which includes songs from our first album, and new ones that have not been released yet.
*Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
Our main composers are Achilleas and Kostas P. Achilleas also writes the lyrics, however we all participate in the process of composition and orchestration by introducing ideas during the process.
*What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
We usually rehearse on weekends, for about 2 or 3 hours each day. We would like to rehearse more, but this is not possible because of our day jobs.
*What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
We have not faced any serious challenges so far.
*What's your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?
Our main goal is to make music and share it with others. Each of the band members has their own carriers and we don’t expect to make money or be famous through music. It’s just something that we love and we do for ourselves, and we would like to keep it that way.
*How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
They can hear samples of our music in myspace
and can also visit our website
